Corrective Jaw Surgery in McComb, MS

Corrective jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a procedure designed to correct misalignment of the jaws and teeth that cannot be fixed with braces alone. At Southwest Center for Oral Surgery, Dr. Eric Lewis performs this specialized surgery to improve both function and appearance for patients experiencing difficulty chewing, speaking, or breathing due to jaw abnormalities. The procedure involves repositioning or reshaping the upper and lower jaws to create proper alignment and balance with the facial structure. In some cases, corrective jaw surgery can also help alleviate issues like sleep apnea or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, ultimately enhancing overall oral health and quality of life. To learn more about corrective jaw surgery and if you may be a candidate, contact our office in McComb, MS to schedule a consultation.

Before developing your treatment program, Dr. Lewis will perform a comprehensive examination. He will take x-rays of the mouth to determine what surgical methods will work. Dr. Lewis performs corrective jaw surgery using anesthesia, ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure. The surgery typically takes 2 – 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. Small incisions are made inside the mouth to access the jawbones, eliminating visible scarring. Using specialized surgical tools, Dr. Lewis carefully cuts and repositions the upper jaw (maxilla), lower jaw (mandible), or both, depending on the patient's needs. The bones are then secured in their new position with titanium plates and screws, which help stabilize the jaw as it heals. In some cases, bone grafts may be used to enhance structural support.

I had an amazing experience. The office staff could give lessons on customer service. The entire office is spotless, and Courtney, the nurse in the back was phenomenal! 1st IV I’ve EVER had that didn’t hurt! Actually 1st one that I didn’t have to get poked multiple times!! 5stars and 2👍👍 from us! Woke up the next morning with minimal pain, feeling so much better. Dr Lewis has been a blessing for us
