What Are Impacted Teeth?
Impacted teeth are teeth that are unable to fully emerge or grow properly through the gums, often due to lack of space or misalignment. This condition is most common with wisdom teeth but can affect other teeth as well. Impacted teeth can cause pain, swelling, infection, and damage to adjacent teeth if left untreated. Dr. Eric Lewis offers diagnosis and treatment of impacted teeth at Southwest Center for Oral Surgery, ensuring proper care to alleviate discomfort and prevent further complications. How Are Impacted Teeth Treated?
Treatment for impacted teeth often involves a surgical procedure to remove or reposition the tooth. Dr. Lewis begins with a thorough examination, often using x-rays to assess the position of the tooth and determine the best approach. In many cases, the gum tissue is carefully lifted to expose the impacted tooth, and surrounding bone may be removed to access it, as well. The tooth is then extracted or repositioned, and if needed, the area is sutured for proper healing. For partially impacted teeth, a smaller incision may be made, and in some cases, the tooth can be allowed to emerge naturally with the help of orthodontic treatments. The recovery process typically involves managing swelling and discomfort, with follow-up visits to ensure proper healing.
What Are the Benefits of Treating Impacted Teeth?
Treating impacted teeth provides several important benefits to your oral health, including:
- Alleviating pain and discomfort caused by impaction
- Preventing infection or damage to nearby teeth
- Reducing the risk of cysts or tumors forming around impacted teeth
- Improving overall dental alignment and function
- Restoring the natural eruption of teeth, especially in younger patients
Southwest Center for Oral Surgery Reviews
I had an amazing experience. The office staff could give lessons on customer service. The entire office is spotless, and Courtney, the nurse in the back was phenomenal! 1st IV I’ve EVER had that didn’t hurt! Actually 1st one that I didn’t have to get poked multiple times!! 5stars and 2👍👍 from us! Woke up the next morning with minimal pain, feeling so much better. Dr Lewis has been a blessing for us
Very nice and friendly atmosphere 👌
Dr Lewis did a wonderful job. Diagnosed and surgically removed with no side effects. I am elderly and as uncertain how well I would do. I could not be more pleased

Never had any pain thru out whole process . Proper healing between steps , it took 10 weeks oh almost forgot I got a 500.00 discount on scrapping bone , which I had a lot of . If you want a good job done the first time I highly recommend Dr Lewis in mcomb ms .
